Dear Chapter Council colleagues,

As always, I'm thankful for your chapters' many contributions to our profession.  Among other items in the following paragraphs, pay close attention to MLA changes regarding activities that may impact the planning of local chapter conferences, going forward.

Making the health sciences librarianship community more accessible and inclusive is one of MLA’s priorities. As you know, MLA has made our national meetings virtual, has provided a digital MLA experience for MLA’22 attendees, and is continuing to find ways to build and extend our community over digital platforms. Another extension of this is through Board meetings; the Board has been meeting virtually on a monthly basis since 2020 and will continue this practice. In addition, we will no longer have an in-person Board meeting in November; instead, we’ll have a more extended virtual meeting.

Another extension of this is the MLA presence at chapter meetings. Board members will continue to attend chapter meetings for presentations and communications (i.e., the MLA Update), including attending meetings in person where possible. MLA will also continue to provide free national memberships and other items that chapters can use as prizes as well as provide financial support for chapter meetings. However, MLA will no longer have a booth or have staff presence at in-person meetings.

While both decisions have a positive financial impact on MLA’s budget, the Executive Committee wants to emphasize that MLA remains supportive and appreciative of MLA chapters. Your work strengthens the community and advances the work of the profession in a way that MLA as a national organization cannot.
