Dear colleagues-
Happy summer! I need to give you a quick update on a few things

  1. Construction begins soon on Weiskotten Hall, which will benefit from a much-needed renovation. The first step involves closure of the A parking lot, causing a ripple effect in all parking on the south side of campus. There will be some increased parking by Silverman Hall that will not completely offset the lost spaces. I would share more details with you but final answers are not yet clear. More importantly, there will be noise and dust in the construction zone. Once that begins the NAB and Silverman will be the least impacted. Weiskotten labs, offices and classrooms – stay tuned. The estimated length of the construction/renovation is 2 years.
  2. We need a CHP student government representative. Might one of your students be a good spokesperson for CHP? Student voices matter!
  3. We will have our opening lunch on August 28 at noon – watch for a Save the Date. Chairs are asked to briefly share their department’s main initiatives for the 2025-26 AY
  4. White Coat Ceremony is August 23 at the Civic Center. The ceremony begins at 10, faculty and students should arrive by 9.
  5. A great thing about being at Upstate is the range of professional development opportunities available at no charge. Here’s one that Mary DiMura found:
Join us this Thursday, June 26, for a thought-provoking conversation on the power of emotional intelligence.
We’re excited to welcome Michael Mix, MD, Residency Program Director and Associate Professor of Radiation Oncology, and Rebecca Greenblatt, PhD, Phase One Co-Director in the Office of Undergraduate and Medical Education, for a live panel discussion on Emotional Intelligence (EQ)—and how it’s shaping the way we work, teach, lead, and care.
Together, they’ll reflect on their personal experiences with EQ, why EQ matters, and how we can all strengthen our emotional intelligence to foster better communication, teamwork, and resilience across Upstate.
🧠 What you’ll gain:
· Real-world insights from respected Upstate leaders
· Practical tips to develop and apply EQ
· A deeper understanding of how EQ improves work and outcomes at Upstate
📅 Date: Thursday, June 26 🕚 Time: 12:00 – 12:30pm 📍 Virtual Meeting Link:
