[CHPFacultyStaff] Message from the dean

Dear CHP colleagues,
I have two items of note to share today. Beginning with the more mundane, you may be receiving notices of required training for Title IX, Title IV, Cybersecurity, etc. Aside from the live Ethics training these are virtual and asynchronous, but there is a deadline for completion. Please be attuned to these and make time in your schedule to complete them in a timely manner.
Next, I believe many of you have heard the news that I will be retiring at the end of this academic year. With the remarkably dedicated and student-centered faculty and chairs along with an outstanding support team it has been (and will continue to be) a joy and a privilege to lead the College of Health Professions. As I finish up my work with the College I am looking forward to a long and active retirement.
Since my decision has been made well in advance we are able to conduct a full search, avoiding the need to appoint an interim dean. The President’s office is engaging an executive search firm and is in the process of forming an Upstate search committee that will be led by Dr. Lynn Cleary, Vice President for University Academic Affairs. This will be a national search, open to internal and external applicants. The search process will begin in November, and more details about the composition of the committee and the timeline will be shared as available. I will not be a member of the committee and will not be privy to their deliberations, so I am extremely pleased that Dr. Cleary will chair the committee. I trust her steady leadership and institutional knowledge and believe she understands our programs and people better than anyone outside of CHP.
We will continue to advance key projects/initiatives, and I look forward to working with you along these lines. For now, note that I will be away on vacation from October 30 – November 15, and plan to come back recharged for the work to move forward on our mission and goals.
