Dear colleagues, I want to bring to your attention this email that went out to students on Monday. There is a great deal of tension in the world, this adversely affects our students. Please be attentive to them, refer appropriately, and please let me know if the tensions seem to be escalating.
Thank you for the work you do to support our students.
Katherine

Dear Upstate Medical University Students,
As we begin a new calendar year and embark on a fresh academic term, we recognize that this transition brings both renewed energy and new demands. The rigor of your programs, paired with the ongoing pressures of academic life, can make this period especially challenging. We are also mindful that the broader world continues to feel uncertain, and global and economic stressors can affect each of us in different ways.
The Division of Student Affairs remains fully committed to supporting you as you navigate these experiences. Our goal is to ensure you have the resources you need to thrive—personally, academically, and professionally. You never have to face difficult moments on your own. Please remember that the following essential services are available to every student:
* Financial Aid Office<https://www.upstate.edu/financialaid/ >: Support for unexpected financial challenges, tuition concerns, budgeting questions, or loan guidance.
* Student Counseling Services<https://www.upstate.edu/currentstudents/support/scc/ >: Confidential counseling, crisis intervention, and consultation for stress, anxiety, emotional strain, or other personal concerns.
* Basic Needs & Food Insecurity Support<https://www.upstate.edu/currentstudents/support/food-insecurity.php >: Assistance with food insecurity, housing instability, and other essential resource needs, along with connections to additional support programs.
Your dedication, resilience, and commitment continue to inspire us. Please make use of the resources designed to support your well-being and success—they exist because your growth and health matter deeply to us.
With continued support,
Robert F. Ruiz
