I hope your fall is going well! I work at Partners for Education & Business<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://www.macny.org/peb-engage-with-students/__;!!GobTDDpD7A!KhRT_Rp0UlRycNV73xzbgrNpYrtcIm6g4Gg_7aJCIQKsN0vQEy_v31iZPKxyhk5CIKCs_198pZCyrrV6ziOU$>, a non-profit that sets up career readiness/exploration activities, job shadows, and site visits for schools. Based on my records, you had noted an interest in being a “career coach” for Henninger’s Health Professions and Medical Assisting classes. This is where volunteers do a small group activity to learn about careers and work skills. We would love to have you come in! Whether it is once a year or once a month, we appreciate any help in preparing our students for their future. Please see below for the dates, times, and topics. Let me know if you would like to participate in any of them. Once I have your preferences, I will send your email information to SCSD for a required online background check. I will also send a calendar invite. Activities will be sent approximately a week before the session.

Please note that there are fewer 11th and 12th grade coaching sessions since we are focusing on job shadowing experiences this year. If you are interested in hosting students for a site visit (any grade) or job shadowing, let me know!

9th Grade

  *   Time: 11:30am-12:30pm
  *   Theme: Speed career exploration
  *   Format: There are four classrooms. Each class will have a presenter for 10-12 minutes, where the volunteer does a 1-2 minute career overview, then a small hands-on activity. After the 10-12 minutes, the volunteer will rotate to the next class. They will visit all four classes. Focus on activity, rather than a presentation.
     *   *We also can use classroom coaches, who do not present or rotate. They stay in one room and help students with the activity.*
     *   Let me know if you would like to be a presenter or classroom coach. Happy to explore either with you!
  *   Activity: The coach determines what they want to do, but we are here to help!
     *   Examples: A physical therapist has students do PT exercises. A surgical technologist has students do sterile gloving.
  *   Tuesday, 10/20 -  Direct patient care (i.e. nursing, PT, etc.)
  *   Tuesday, 11/24 - Behind the scenes patient care (X-ray, pharmacy, etc.)
  *   Thursday, 12/10 – Psychology, neurology, and the brain
  *   Tuesday, 1/12 - Health information technology
  *   Tuesday, 2/23 - Clinical lab
  *   Wednesday, 3/10 - Human services or volunteer project - TBD
  *   Wednesday, 4/21 - Teamwork activity related to careers
  *   Tuesday, 5/11 - End of year celebration

10th Grade

  *   Time: 1-1:45pm
  *   Theme: Safety
  *   Activity: Students and coaches will do a small group task. Depending on numbers of coaches, volunteers will either be assigned to a group or float. Activity provided by Henninger/MACNY.
  *   October – None
  *   Thursday, 11/19 - First aid, sports
  *   Friday, 12/11 - Fire safety
  *   Thursday, 1/7 - CPR, AED, choking
  *   Thursday, 2/11 - Food safety
  *   Thursday, 3/25 - Lab and blood safety
  *   Thursday, 4/22 - EHS/pollution
  *   Thursday, 5/6 - End of the year celebration

11th Grade

  *   Time: 9-9:45am
  *   Thursday, 11/19 - Professionalism and resumes
  *   Thursday, 4/22 - TBD

12th Grade

  *   Time: 7:45-8:40am
  *   Thursday, 11/19 - Career preparation
  *   Thursday, 4/22 - TBD
