[epicproviders] COVID and Respiratory Panel Testing (Epic ordering) - important change.

              	    	Epic has been updated to support new COVID ordering workflows.
Going forward COVID testing and Respiratory Panel (RP) testing will be linked. The clinical laboratory will first perform the RP. If the RP is positive no further testing will be done. If the RP is negative, COVID testing will be done on the same sample. 
How this works:
The Respiratory Panel order has been replaced with an order panel called “Respiratory panel/COVID Ordering”. The panel will contain the RP order, the correct order for isolation (enhanced airborne) and instructions to place the COVID order. As of tonight, the COVID order is placed using a downtime req. Instructions are available on the COVID website located here:

We expanded the ability to order COVID test to include trainees (residents). Additionally, phone numbers listed in the panel can direct you to help resources.  If you feel a patient has unique ordering requirements not addressed by this new workflow, please contact contact the lab at the numbers listed in the panel for assistance. 

Early next week we will complete the creation of the COVID order in Epic and will then announce that the panel has both the RP and COVID orders in addition to the isolation order.
