Epigram

Required (by regulation) change to Imaging Orders

All advanced diagnostic imaging orders will require electronic (automatic in Epic) consultation for appropriate use. We will be using CareSelect to provide this clinical decision support (Starting Sept 13).
Note: this does not affect all radiology orders, it is limited to advanced imaging orders such as CT, MRI, etc.

What will be different:

  * When you place orders, you will be asked to provide an indication. A checklist of common indications will be presented. You can also enter reasons in an “other” box.
     * The order will be graded by CareSelect for appropriateness.
     * If the study does not meet best standard practices, you will be offered studies that might. You can choose to keep the original order or replace it with a suggested order.
  * When the order is placed by staff on your behalf (ambulatory clinics): If the order is flagged to potentially not meet best practices, the individual placing the order will need to confer with you prior to completing the order.

Important go-live changes:
This required process significantly changes affected orders. Because of this, any saved orders (preference lists) that you have made will need to be updated. Orders for imaging affected (example CT and MRI but not chest x-rays, etc). that were saved in preference lists will be set back to their base version. Thus, a saved CT will still be there but none of the options you saved will remain. You will need to update these preference list orders to meet your ordering needs after the go-live on Sept 13.

Please watch your email for important IMT updates for more information about how this new process works.
