Lab Tube Shortage
There is a national shortage of blood tubes for lab tests. To conserve tubes, the lab has asked us to limit orders of common tests (BMP, CMP, CBC) to within a calendar day.  Your order can place as many tests you need within the day, but you will need to place a new order each day if the patient requires ongoing testing.

How this will work
After you place the orders, if they pass beyond the current day, you will see a message when you try to sign them that asks you to go back and make the necessary change.

Exclusions
There are 2 patient populations with unique needs for which this has been exempted: ICU patients and Oncology patients on a treatment plan.

Patients with a status of “ICU” or “Step-down” will be automatically excluded.

For oncology patients, there is a new question in the order where you can indicate that the patient is oncology (and the plan they are on). If you so indicate, the order will be exempt from the limitation.
