Epigram: Epic Upgrade

Epic upgrades happen twice a year. This helps us keep up with system fixes/improvements and meet new regulatory requirements. Our Spring Upgrade will be Saturday May 21.

  * The training and education team has made a number of great summaries to help you learn about the changes in the upgrade.
  *   View the summaries here<https://www.upstate.edu/training/intra/epic/index.php?kword=2022+upgrade&strrole=Providers&numcid=10&stage=1&submit=Search>
  * Most of the changes involve simplifying workflow and providing information for you when it is most relevant.
  * To accommodate the update, the Epic system will be “Frozen” on Wednesday (18th). – no changes will be able to be made in the system until the upgrade is complete on the 21st. This includes personalizations.

A few highlights (please use the link above to learn more).
Inpatient

  * New Timeline activity gains more functionality. If you have not tried the new Timeline activity, it is a great new way to see what is on with your patient- reports are like summary reports but much more interactive.
     * One new Timeline report that is very helpful is the medications report. This is one of the best ways view the medications your patient is on and when they received them. This report is already in the system. But with the upgrade, you will be able to modify order directly from this report without having to go back to manage orders. * Chart Review- you can now edit/attest notes directly from Chart Review. You can also see additional encounter information while reviewing the chart.
  * When reviewing medications you can now see adherence reports that are based on refills the patient has done.
  * Chart Search is growing more capable. Search for a lab and it will now show you recent labs, searching vitals will do the same for vitals. Right click on any term in the chart to start a search based on it. Ambulatory

  * If you enter or edit outside results, this feature has been simplified to speed up your work! Click here to see how.<https://www.upstate.edu/training/intra/epic/documents/enter_edit_results_for_external_tests_april_22.pdf>
  * Many of the improvements for inpatient are also available for ambulatory users (like Chart Search, editing from Chart Review, and med adherence reports).
  * New speed button options will allow you to speed up routing in chart review and inbox
  * Have long preference lists? A new wrench in order browse makes it easier to rearrange these lists without going into the preference list editor.
  * You can now alter diagnoses right from the associate diagnoses window.
