<p class="MsoNormal" style="caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black">A new enhancement will allow you to send a message to a “group” or “team” without having to know who is part of the group. There will be 2 types of groups. The
first is based on care teams (inpatient) and the second are “opt-in” groups that can function in both inpatient and ambulatory settings.

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black">Care Groups</span><span style="color:black"><o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="caret-color: rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black">When you need to reach someone caring for a patient, you often know who you want to reach. The person could, for example, be the resident primarily responsible
for the patient, an attending or an NP/PA. For non-urgent matters, a SecureChat to the person is a good way to communicate (if they are available on SecureChat). If you do not know who is directly responsible (perhaps the resident is now in clinic), you will
be able to send a message to a team that is assigned to a patient. With this new functionality, you can send a message to the “Red Team” and all members of the team will get it. You can use this function to send a non-urgent message about a patient. You could
also use this to coordinate when team rounds are going to start. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black">Opt-in Groups<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black">Opt-in teams are teams that are not assigned to patients directly. They can be used to group persons who are working a common role in the hospital or clinic. Opt-in groups are built by IMT. This
is a quick process to request if you have a team in mind that might be helpful in your work. Inpatient examples could be a group called “Meds-to-Beds” where messages go to the pharmacists and others that are administrating the program at the moment. All requests
could go to this group message instead of needing to know who is working in this group right now. These groups also work for ambulatory settings. A large clinic could make a group for the front desk staff or nurses covering a pod. Messages to the groups could
help work flow even if the persons doing that role change during the day. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black"><o:p> </o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black">Team membership<o:p></o:p></span></b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:14.0pt;color:black">To make this work, members of a team need to assign themselves to the team. For opt-in groups, this is a process within the SecureChat activity. For care groups, this is partially automated. There
will be a new sign in/out activity available for you to use when you join a team (or teams). You specify the team and how long to be on it. Sign-off will be automatic based on the date and time you enter when joining the team. If you open Epic from a computer
in the hospital and are not on a team, Epic will prompt you to join one- please do, if appropriate (if you will not be on a team that day, there is a method provided to quiet the system from asking again).
