[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - Group B strep screening test change

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing. In an attempt to keep us all on the same page, the Laboratory Formulary Committee will be regularly sending out emails with recent updates and guidances. Below are the short versions of relevant changes. More in-depth resources about the changes are attached.

Change to Streptococcus agalactiae (GBS) antenatal screening culture orders: To decrease time to results and incrementally improve the accuracy of culture for detecting anovaginal GBS colonization, LAB2720 Culture Group B Strep is being replaced by LAB9350 Group B Streptococcus Antenatal Screening Culture, effective 2/1/2022. The updated procedure includes selective culture broth enrichment followed by PCR (see example reports). Note that a different swab device is required for specimen collection, available through Distribution or Materials Management Warehouse.  Please see the attached guidance for additional information.
