[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - Fungal blood culture and Bone Marrow culture changes

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing.  The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.



Fungal blood culture and bone marrow cultures: Beginning 12/27/2023, Fungal Blood Culture (LAB9871) replaces Fungus Cult Blood (LAB242). The new culture requires the use of Myco/F Lytic blood culture bottles, available from Distribution. In addition, bone marrow samples for culture must now be submitted in vacuum tubes containing SPS anticoagulant, available from Microbiology. These changes were necessitated by the discontinuation of Isolator collection tubes.
