[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - Joint Infection Panel and urine Trichomonas testing

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing.  The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.



Joint Infection Panel:  Starting April 25th, 2024, a new laboratory test Joint Infection Panel [LAB9882] will be available to test for infections in synovial fluid specimens.  This test detects multiple aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, yeast, and antimicrobial resistance genes.  Please see the attached guidance for further details.


Amplified Trichomonas Assay urine sample: Starting April 25th, 2024, the Upstate Microbiology Laboratory has added first-void urine (male and female) as a specimen type for the Amplified T. vaginalis Assay (LAB8833). Collect 20-30 mL of first-void urine and submit in either a sterile container within 24 hours of collection or in an APTIMA Urine Transport tube.
