</span></strong>The test <b>Clostridium Difficile Toxin (Epic order LAB253) </b>for
<i>Clostridioides </i>(Clostridium)<i> difficile</i> is being replaced with <b>C. difficile PCR (Epic order LAB9296)</b> on November 2, 2021. This order has been updated to include applicable indications and contraindications (<u>at least 3 loose stools in
the prior 24 hours</u> <b>AND</b> <u>the patient must not have been on a bowel regimen including stool softeners within 48 hours</u>)<span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Segoe UI",sans-serif">. Inappropriate use of this testing can result in unnecessary
isolation precautions and exposure to medications, as well as straining hospital resources and staffing. With this guidance in the order, this testing will be a Tier 1 rather than Tier 2.
