with recent updates and guidances. Below are the short versions of relevant changes.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Segoe UI",sans-serif">Group A Strep testing change:</span></b><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Segoe UI",sans-serif"> </span>Beginning
<b>7/1/2022</b>, Microbiology will <b>no longer perform the Rapid Strep Assay (LAB12011)</b> for the detection of
<i>Streptococcus pyogenes</i> (<i>Streptococcus</i> group A) antigen from throat swabs. If streptococcal pharyngitis is suspected
<u>and</u> your unit performs ID NOW testing, order <b>POCT ID NOW Strep A DNA (POC130)</b>.
<b>Throat culture (Streptococcus culture, LAB2769)</b> remains available for other units and when other bacterial causes of pharyngitis are suspected. Note that culture backup for negative POCT ID NOW Strep A DNA tests is
<b><u>not</u></b> required.<o:p></o:p></p>
