<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Segoe UI",sans-serif">Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing. In an attempt to keep us all on the same page, the Laboratory Formulary Committee will be regularly sending out emails
with recent updates and guidances. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="xxmsonormal"><b><span style="color:black">Removal of Neurology Paraneoplastic Autoantibody Panel (MPAVL/MPAC1) from Epic 11/3/2022</span></b><span style="color:black">: </span>The Mayo neurology testing specialists strongly recommend that the paraneoplastic
panel <b>NOT</b> be ordered, as that panel contains outdated antibody combinations and is not a panel they review/update for clinical utility. The other panels, including encephalopathy, epilepsy, and movement disorders, are more consistently updated with
the most currently relevant/recommended antibody combinations. <span style="color:black">
In particular, there have been studies that show that </span>VGKC-complex antibodies (found only in the paraneoplastic panel) don’t meet the criteria Mayo has set to be clinically relevant and therefore should not necessitate a paraneoplastic panel request.
VGKC-complex antibodies have been found to be non-specific, not able to direct a search for cancer, and not able to guide treatment or prognosis. Additionally, studies have shown that VGKC-complex antibodies provide little to no clinical value without LGI1
or CASPR2 positivity. Consequently, VGKC has been replaced by LGI1 and CASPR2 in the panels that Mayo updates.
