<p class="xmsonormal"><b><u><span style="color:black">SMA (SMN1/SMN2) Testing in-house</span></u></b><u><span style="color:black">:</span></u><span style="color:black"> Starting
<b>February 5<sup>th</sup>, 2024</b>, testing for the <b>SMN1/SMN2 mutations in the SMA gene</b> (one genetic cause of spinal muscular atrophy) will be performed in-house by the SUNY Upstate’s Molecular Laboratory. This testing is currently sent out to a reference
laboratory. Ordering of this testing can be done using the <b>Molecular Diagnostic, Genetics (LABAP2706)
</b>Epic order. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="xmsonormal"><b><u><span style="color:black">Note</span></u><span style="color:black">:</span></b><span style="color:black"> a separate genetic testing consent and insurance authorization are both
<u>required prior to performance of the testing</u>. Please see the attached guidance for more information. </span><o:p></o:p></p>
<p><b><u><span style="color:black">Benzodiazepine Testing – new reagent:</span></u></b><span style="color:black"> Starting
<b>February 1<sup>st</sup>, 2024</b>, the reagent used for <b>Benzodiazepine testing</b> on the
<b>Drugs of Abuse, Urine (LAB2810)</b> Epic assay. This reagent change will result in a significant increase in sensitivity of this testing as the new reagent is better able to recognize glucuronidated benzodiazepines. Please see the attached guidance for
