Graduate Women in Science Invited Speaker Series

Description:
Graduate Women In Science (GWIS) is hosting a seminar to hear from a prominent female scientist both about her work and career journey. This seminar is open to all students and faculty across the colleges at Upstate to learn great science and different perspectives about working in STEM! Heidi J. Zapata, MD, PhD, is an infectious disease specialist and immunologist at Yale School of Medicine. As a physician-scientist, she sees both hospital inpatients and HIV-positive outpatients while working to understand why each human–microbe relationship is different. Dr. Zapata is also an assistant professor of medicine (infectious diseases) in the Department of Internal Medicine at Yale School of Medicine (and an Upstate COGS Alumni!). A casual meet-and-greet lunch with the speaker will be catered following the speaker's talk. This is open to a small number of students who sign up early. The luncheon sign up is open to all students from any of the colleges (i.e. you do not have to be a GWIS member or identify in any specific way to learn from Dr. Zapata!).
