Good afternoon,

Please take some time to review the [https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://res-2.df.onecdn.static.microsoft/files/fabric-cdn-prod_20251010.003/assets/item-types/16/xlsx.svg__;!!GobTDDpD7A!KR6vZbGYimCez8_C8P_WZBT9XZTkoJW7oAPRBuEB83fYX3OKLW-kbctUpjuMRRmYjtKQo_TWM4gi7eS63herbJSBcQ$ ] 2026/7 Grand Rounds Schedule<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://upstate0-my.sharepoint.com/:x:/r/personal/cifonela_upstate_edu/_layouts/15/Doc.aspx?sourcedoc=*7B35A40168-D03F-4506-8CD0-B18340B0A1BE*7D&file=Grand*20Rounds*20Schedule*2026-27.xlsx&action=default&mobileredirect=true__;JSUlJSU!!GobTDDpD7A!KR6vZbGYimCez8_C8P_WZBT9XZTkoJW7oAPRBuEB83fYX3OKLW-kbctUpjuMRRmYjtKQo_TWM4gi7eS63hfAWFLYWg$ >.

  * Make sure your name is on it (excluding MS3’s) and let me know, if not

     *
You’re allowed to switch with a colleague, but you must notify me.
  * Review the Expectations + Guidelines for your training level (on separate tabs)

  * Mark your calendar for your presentation NOW

  * Note for PhD students: Start working to select an NEJM case with a clinical mentor ASAP. You must also invite the clinician to Grand Rounds for your presentation. There is plenty of time now, so please do not wait on this. The clinician will serve as a visiting medical educator for Grand Rounds on the evening of your presentation. We can accommodate virtual visits, but please encourage in-person. Of course, there will always be a good meal, so let them know.

Per our program policy:

Grand Rounds

All MD/PhD students will be registered in the MDPH 602, MD/PhD Grand Rounds for every semester of their training. The goal of MD/PhD Grand Rounds is to facilitate peer mentorship, create a sense of community, and a culture of inquiry. The MD/PhD Grand Rounds course recurs weekly during the academic calendar. All MD/PhD students participate in Grand Rounds and are required to attend except for those in clinical clerkships and students attending scientific meetings. Attendance at grand rounds is a program requirement. If a student cannot attend, an email must be sent prior to grand rounds to the program director and program coordinator. First- and second-year students will present their summer laboratory rotation work. First and fourth/fifth year graduate students present a Clinical Case from the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM). Second year graduate students present their dissertation work and grant proposal for peer review. Third year graduate students present a critical review of a clinical trial. Students in their fourth year of medical school share a ‘Senior Capstone Presentation’ of a topic of their own choosing. Humble inquiry and curiosity are encouraged to facilitate reinforcement and in-depth discussion of clinical topics for graduate students, peer review of their laboratory work, and develop medical education skills.
