Hello Class of 2028!

We hope you have been settling into medical school and are on your way to finding your flow.

As you know, the Class of 2027 officers have been thoughtfully and diligently collecting and sharing your feedback with the UME Office. We welcome the opportunity to address your thoughts and concerns, and to provide you with updates on items we have identified. Below you will find updates on a variety of topics. Some have been announced already via course Brightspace announcements; we thought it may be helpful to have them all in one place and in case you missed a prior announcement.

In addition to submitting end of course evaluations through MedHub for each course, please continue to work with class officers and reach out to us directly, as needed, to share your thoughts. While there will be times when we take the opportunity to explain why a system intentionally functions the way it does or a change is not currently feasible, we do make changes (especially when they are simple/easy) when educationally sound requests are made by a large proportion of the class.

  1. Access to WFA Reflections - As previously announced in the weekly newsflash, reflections submissions for weekly formative assessments are made available in ExamSoft following each WFA at the same time WFA scores are released. Students should be careful to not include information about the question itself that could jeopardize question security.

  1. Formative Assessment Performance/Anxiety -Please see MCM Brightspace announcement from August 29 regarding the purpose of formative assessment 2 and advice on how to use a low score as a starting point for future success.

  1. Week of September 23 - Please see the email sent via the Class of 2028 list serve on August 30. There are no required activities on Monday that week. More details to follow regarding required activities on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday to follow. Rapid remediation of the MCM written exam is scheduled for Friday, September 27.

  1. MA Lab Quiz secure review - Following microscopic anatomy lab sessions, students may choose to stay and do a secure review of the MA lab quiz. Thank you, MS2 Class Officers, for letting us know that there was interest in Secure Reviews for MA. Students have not asked for them previously.

  1. TAs for unit courses - There is an elective course students may register for, starting in semester 3, to be a teaching assistant for unit courses. Students very much appreciate having this resource, which depends on upper-level students registering for the elective. Students who are considering being a TA for unit courses next year should reach out to Lizel Stover and the course director(s).

  1. MCM Pre-Work Volume - Dr. Greenblatt is conferring with officers to learn more about this feedback in order to best address it.

Sincerely,

The UME Office
