Dear Norton College of Medicine Class of 2028+:

Welcome back (almost)! We hope that you found some time to rest and do things you enjoy this summer. You have worked hard and have made it through two thirds of the pre-clerkship curriculum. One more semester before you head off to dedicated and then clerkships!

The Fall semester begins promptly at 8:30am on Monday, July 28, 2025, in the New Academic Building (NAB) 4414B/C. A light breakfast will be provided. In addition to beginning coursework in ERS and CAPD, Monday's sessions are designed to reorient you to the curriculum, processes, and expectations (some of which have been updated), provide a window into timelines and expectations as you approach your clinical years, and prepare you for the inpatient portion of the Longitudinal Clinical Preceptorship (LCP). Attendance (in person) is required for all sessions on Monday.

You may have noticed that you already have access to the Semester 3 academic schedule in Brightspace and your 3rd party calendar as it is the same calendar as last year. If you are experiencing any issues with synching on your third-party calendar, please try deleting the calendar and subscribe again using this link.<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://mylearning.suny.edu/d2l/le/calendar/feed/user/feed.ics?feedOU=247269&token=aev8ixmwvfl1zq7u7ca97__;!!GobTDDpD7A!JTCSDCkUkKnI3nnFktXzyuNkmFKw11vyiN0ugVnJuEi6Yj9u1_8nxxa_tcDND4w1JpqD9SBu7uZpl4T8t9fBz-TicINUvQ$ > Instructions may be found on the academic schedules section of the UME website<https://www.upstate.edu/ume/schedules.php >. We have partnered with Medtrics to replace CORE ELMS for clinical scheduling this year. You'll learn more about finding your clinical assignments and syncing this calendar during orientation to LCP3 on Monday, July 28.

While we prepare for your return to campus later this month, there are some ways you, too, can prepare. Course directors have spent some time identifying key content and concepts that, whether from required undergraduate pre-requisite coursework or your first-year med school courses, are necessary foundations for semester 3 course success and preparation for the USMLE Step 1 exam. This content is posted the UME Office Brightspace page, under Semester 3 (Phase 1 - Preclerkship) > Summer Module.<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://mylearning.suny.edu/d2l/le/content/247269/Home__;!!GobTDDpD7A!JTCSDCkUkKnI3nnFktXzyuNkmFKw11vyiN0ugVnJuEi6Yj9u1_8nxxa_tcDND4w1JpqD9SBu7uZpl4T8t9fBz-Qdhmz-zA$ > While we won't be tracking if you've watched these videos, your upcoming course directors have identified understanding of this material before starting their course as critical.

We know that you may have questions. We hope to answer all of them when you return, but if there is anything that you need in the meantime, please don't hesitate to reach out via UME at upstate.edu<mailto:UME at upstate.edu>.

We look forward to seeing you soon!

Sincerely,
