This analytical dimension works in tandem with gorgeous prose that immerses the reader in the sensory experiences of place—orange blossoms, a citrus orchard, papaya salad, a cold and muddy river. Readers learn how sense memories contribute to the embodied
knowledge and practices through which New Americans sustain community and recreate home and belonging.
