MED2029 Scott Heinzerling Memorial Scholarship award

Dear COM students,


I am pleased to share it is the time of year to select the recipient of the Scott Heinzerling Memorial Scholarship. This year the scholarship is $3,070 and is given to a medical student who plans to specialize in oncology. The scholarship was established by Scott Heinzerling’s sister, who is grateful for the compassionate care her brother received at Upstate Medical when he was being treated for cancer.


All interested medical students should submit a 500-word essay, address the essay to Heidi on why you want to specialize in oncology to me by the end of day, Friday, December 5, 2025. Students of any year may submit an essay, including anyone who has applied previously, but did not receive a scholarship.
