MED2029 AOA Opportunities

 There are many AOA opportunities listed below for medical students for the 2026-2027 AY, along with the submission deadlines.  Students do not need to be members of AOA to participate.



AΩA Poetry Award – due to AOA by November 3, 2026

  *   To encourage students to write effective poetry. Winning poems are published in The Pharos.



Helen H. Glaser Student Essay Award – due to AOA by December 2, 2026

  *   To encourage scholarly writing, this award offers prizes for essays on nontechnical medical topics. Winning essays are published in The Pharos.



AΩA Stories Award – due to AOA by January 12, 2027

  *   The AΩA Stories Award celebrates the important role narratives play in medical education. Open to medical students enrolled at institutions with an active AΩA chapter who have completed at least three months of clinical clerkship experience by the submission deadline (typically M3/M4 at time of submission), this contest offers students an opportunity to reflect on and share experiences that embody AΩA’s motto: “Be worthy to serve the suffering.”



Carolyn L. Kuckein Student Research Fellowship – due to Dr. Lynn Cleary, cc to Patty Gooden by January 4, 2027 (flyer is attached)

  *   To promote basic and clinical research in medical fields, social science, or health services, AΩA awards up to fifty $7,000 fellowships each year to medical students at schools with active AΩA chapters.
