To comply with the NYS Nurse Practice Act and with State Education Department requirements, it is necessary for Upstate to enforce the 'Pend & Send' workflow within Epic for all orders entered by our nursing staff.

This workflow replaces the 'cosign orders' workflow that our staff may have utilized in the past.

Verbal orders are regulated by UH policy CM P-50<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://upstate.ellucid.com/pman/documents/view/3836__;!!GobTDDpD7A!PypqMdswF6yPwVZQPSQ2WyHXWBZ32WSnYwa_IREw10OXqzKqPkPiGmlaMG8ZoTtVzX0cGsQkMKnHwLxliwUGDJG7njee$ > and by DNV/CMS and are limited to emergent and extenuating circumstances ONLY. Verbal orders are NOT to be used for placement of routine orders.

Attached is the Pend & Send tipsheet<https://www.upstate.edu/training/intra/epic/documents/orders_pend_and_send_rev_kj_4_7.pdf > which explains how to manage these orders.
