From TarantiJ at upstate.edu Wed Jul 1 07:38:59 2026 From: TarantiJ at upstate.edu (Jason Tarantino) Date: Wed, 1 Jul 2026 11:38:59 +0000 Subject: [util] High temperatures Message-ID: Hey Team, Higher-than-normal temperature are expected for the next several days in the central New York region. The weather condition is forecasted to require increased cooling and electrical demand. To help mitigate the impact to our institution we need to look for opportunities for reducing cooling and electrical consumption. This will greatly help our systems keep up with the load and keep our critical environments safe and people comfortable. Methods: * Raise your thermostat up 2 degrees, seems like it will do little to help, but if many areas do this it will reduce the cooling demand on the main air conditioning units. * Shut off lights not in use and/or reduce light levels in your areas, this will help by reducing both electrical usage and reducing heat load on the cooling system. * Shutting off electrical appliances/devices not being used or required for emergency standby * Closing window shades and blinds will help by reducing direct sun light heat load * The most important is to ensure windows are closed to prevent the heat and humidity from entering the building envelope. Our campuses are very large, and one person or department cannot do this alone; with everyone?s help these simple steps can make a huge impact. Thank you for your support with this request. BUILDING 49 AND THE CAB TEST PROCEDURES ARE AS FOLLOWS: * The emergency generator will be starting between 9:30AM and 9:35AM and will be used as the source for emergency power for approximately 30 minutes. * The emergency power will be switched back to normal operations between 10:00AM and 10:05AM when the generator turns off. * Emergency outlets (red) and emergency lights will blink when the test starts and again when it ends. The test, although intended to simulate an actual power outage, has been modified to keep the disruption to services at a minimum. If an actual power outage occurs, the electrical circuits supported by the generator will be without power for 5 to 10 seconds except for those areas which have their own uninterruptible power supplies. Our recent experience suggests that a real power outage can be expected once a year. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the test or the emergency power system, please feel free to contact Marc Dingle, Electrical Facilities Manager at 4-8923 or 680-323-1819. Your continued cooperation in completing the code mandated emergency diesel generator test is greatly appreciated. Thank you. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL: -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
