Additional performance load testing of the New Academic Building boiler system will take place periodically beginning Tuesday May 11, 2021 from 8 AM until 5 PM. The testing requires each of two boilers to be run both independently at varying load capacities up to 100% load capacity. This will generate a significant volume of steam and may be noisy at the point of discharge. The discharge point is at the south end of the south wing of the hospital behind the maintenance garage. A silencer (muffler) has been installed to significantly reduce the noise originally expected to be generated. A steam plume of up to 40' in diameter discharged approximately 30' above street elevation may be experienced. This will depend on the outside air temperature and output of the boiler.

The steam is softened water vapor and contains no harmful additives or chemicals. Each boiler will be tested separately. The plan is to test both boilers on Tuesday. If additional testing beyond this time period is necessary, follow-up notifications will be sent. Each day the boilers will be started at 8 AM and slowly ramped up to maximum load capacity expected to be achieved at around 12 noon. The boilers will run at maximum capacity while measurements are taken and then slowly ramped back down until the end of the test at 5 PM. The largest steam plume and noise will be generated at maximum load output expected between 12 noon and 2 PM daily.
