Consultants' Conference is a monthly meeting attended by medical toxicologists, emergency physicians, pharmacists and other learners from all over the Northeast. It is an educational activity in which the Consultants (renowned experts in various medical specialties) provide insight into the analysis and approach to the diagnosis and treatment of interesting toxicologic cases. The cases are presented mostly by the NYU Toxicology fellows in training, but anyone can present their case if deemed appropriate. Learners of all levels can benefit from the rich and often dynamic discourse.

The next NYC PCC Grand Rounds and Consultants' Conference will be held on Thursday December 2, 2021. Grand Rounds will start at 1PM EST and Consultants' Conference will follow immediately. The topic and speaker will be:

A medical toxicologist in Ghana:
Reflections on a decade of observation and practice

Samara Soghoian, BSc, MA, MD

Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine

The Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine

Division of Medical Toxicology

Consultants' Conference will take place from 2 PM - 4 PM EST.

We will be broadcasting both the Grand Rounds lecture and Consultants' Conference via the same link on WebEx and there WILL NOT be a live conference at the Public Health Laboratory. Cases to be discussed for Consultants' Conference include:

1. A 22-year-old pregnant woman, G2 P1001, at 38 weeks and 5 days gestation, presents to the hospital because of an outpatient venous blood lead concentration of 53µg/dL. She has a past medical history of iron deficiency anemia. She is asymptomatic and her vital signs are all within normal limits.

2. Three siblings (ages: 15 months old, 4 years old and 7 years old) are brought to the ED by their mother because of a concern for "antifreeze" ingestion three hours ago. The children are all asymptomatic and all have vital signs that are within normal limits.

3. A 75-year-old woman with a past medical history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic kidney disease, atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure and dementia presents to the ED for decreased oral intake and progressive deterioration in mental status. Her initial vital signs are: BP, 133/83 mm Hg; HR, 105 beats/min; RR, 20 breaths/min; T, 37 degrees Celsius; O2 Sat, 97% (RA).
