Consultants' Conference is a monthly meeting attended by medical toxicologists, emergency physicians, pharmacists and other learners from all over the Northeast. It is an educational activity in which the Consultants (renowned experts in various medical specialties) provide insight into the analysis and approach to the diagnosis and treatment of interesting toxicologic cases. The cases are presented mostly by the NYU Toxicology fellows in training, but anyone can present their case if deemed appropriate. Learners of all levels can benefit from the rich and often dynamic discourse.



The next NYC PCC Grand Rounds and Consultants' Conference will be held on October 6, 2022. Grand Rounds will start at 1PM EST and Consultants' Conference will follow immediately. The topic and speaker will be:

Cases to be discussed for Consultants' Conference include:



  1.  An 18-month-old healthy boy presents to the ED after his parents found him with a berry from the backyard in his mouth. The child arrives to the hospital approximately one hour; he is asymptomatic. His initial vital signs are: BP, 109/69 mmHg; HR, 128 beats/minute; RR 28, breaths/minute; T, 36.7 degrees Celsius; O2 Sat, 95% (RA).
  2.  A 31-year-old healthy woman is brought to the ED with altered mental status after she attended a "party" last evening and ingested an unknown substance after leaving the party. Her initial vital signs are: BP, 106/68 mm Hg; HR, 107 beats minute; RR, 18 breaths/minute; T, 36.4 degrees Celsius; O2 Sat, 99% (RA). Her laboratory tests are notable for a pH of 7.30, PCO2 of 16 mmHg, lactate of 15.7 mmol/L, and high-sensitivity troponin of 50.37 ng/mL.
  3.  A 59-year-old man with unknown past medical history presents to an ED after being found in cardiac arrest at home in his bed. Emergency Medical Services find 3 bottles of a "cleaning solvent" surrounding the man. Advanced Cardiac Life Support is initiated by EMS and return of spontaneous circulation is achieved shortly after arrival to the ED. His initial vital signs in the are: BP, 77/46 mm Hg; HR, 81 beats/min; T, 35.2 degrees Celsius; O2 Sat, 97% (on vent, FiO2 100%).
