We will be joining the NYCPCC Monthly Consultant's Case Conference on Thursday April 3. Grand rounds will start at 1 pm and then Consultant's Case Conference from 2-4 pm.

The next NYC Poison Center Grand Rounds and Consultants' Conference will be held on April 3, 2025. Grand Rounds will start at 1PM EST and Consultants' Conference will follow immediately. The topic and speaker will be:

Select cases to be discussed for include:
1. An 18-year-old man with an unknown past medical history is brought to the hospital by EMS after being found on the street with multiple bottles of various medications that are not his. The patient reportedly sent a suicide note to family and friends prior to being found. Upon arrival to the ED, he is minimally responsive; he becomes hypoxic and endotracheal intubation is performed. His initial vital signs are: BP, 110/66 mm Hg; HR, 119 beats/minute; RR, 18 breaths/minute; T, Not documented; O2 Sat, 100% (100% FiO2). A serum lithium concentration is obtained and it results as 3.39 mEq/L.
2. An 18-year-old man with a history of an unspecified psychotic disorder is admitted to the inpatient psychiatry service for due to refractory depression. Seventeen days into his admission, he is started on a new medication. His psychiatrist notices that the patient has an increasingly abnormal laboratory result; after 23 additional days of inpatient stay, the Toxicology service is called for consultation. The patient is asymptomatic and has the following vital signs at this time: BP 116/79 mmHg; HR, 102 beats/minute; RR, 18 breaths per min; T, 36.2 degrees Celsius; O2 Saturation, 97% (Room Air).
3. A 29-year-old man with a past medical history of polysubstance use disorder and a history of multiple ED visits for intentional ingestions is found down today by EMS surrounded by multiple empty pill bottles. During transport to the hospital, he awakens and becomes acutely agitated; he is given multiple sedative medications in the field. Upon arrival to the ED, his initial vital signs are: BP, 126.81 mm Hg; HR, 89 beats/minute; RR, 16 breaths/minute; T, 36.4 degrees Celsius; O2 Sat, 99% (Room Air). Over the next three hours, the patient is administered other medications for sedation; at approximately three hours, his ECG is noted to be abnormal.
