We will be joining the NYCPCC Monthly Grand Rounds and Consultant’s Case Conference on Thursday February 5 starting at 1 pm.

We will be in the PCC Conference room on the 1st floor in Jacobsen Hall.

The first Grands Rounds lecture and Consultants' Conference of 2026 will take place on February 5 starting at 1PM.
See below for information regarding the teaser cases and the registration link; there is also a map attached of the NYU medical campus for those who will be attending the meeting in person. Please note that we are back in the "old" location in the Schwartz Auditorium.

                        New York City Poison Center Consultants' Conference
FEBRUARY 2026
Consultants' Conference is a monthly meeting attended by medical toxicologists, emergency physicians, pharmacists and other learners from all over the Northeast. It is an educational activity in which the Consultants (renowned experts in various medical specialties) provide insight into the analysis and approach to the diagnosis and treatment of interesting toxicologic cases. The cases are largely presented by the NYU Toxicology fellows in training, but anyone can present their case if deemed appropriate. Learners of all levels can benefit from the rich and often dynamic discourse.

The next NYC Poison Center Grand Rounds and Consultants’ Conference will be held on February 5, 2026. Grand Rounds will start at 1PM EST and Consultants’ Conference will follow immediately. The topic and speakers will be:

Select cases to be discussed include:

1.      A 50-year-old man presents to the ED with multiple episodes of nausea, vomiting and diarrhea that began earlier this morning. He reports he and several family members foraged wild mushrooms in a park the day before; the mushrooms were cooked and consumed approximately 20 hours prior to ED presentation. His initial vital signs are: BP, 142/86 mm Hg; HR, 58 beats/minutes; RR, 20 breaths/minute; T, 98.1 degrees Fahrenheit; O2 Sat 100% (Room Air). His initial lab values are significant for: AST, 50 U/L, ALT, 49 U/L, Total bilirubin, 1.2 mg/dL, INR 1.0 and lactate, 3.9 mmol/L.

2.      A 40-year-old woman with a past medical history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and plaque psoriasis presents to the ED for fever and rash. She reports that she picked up a refill of her blood pressure medication 24 days ago; the fever and rash began approximately 10 days ago. She has had two previous ED visits during the last 3+ weeks but no diagnosis has been made. Her initial vital signs at the time are: BP, 135/99 mm Hg; HR, 94 beats/minute; RR, 18 breaths/minute; T, 98.4 degrees Fahrenheit.

3.      A 28-year-old man with a past medical history of coronary artery disease presents to the emergency department after being bitten on the hand by a snake. He initially has mild swelling in his hand but is transferred to a regional snakebite center for further evaluation and management. His vital signs on initial presentation are: BP: 117/80 mm Hg; HR, 145 beats/minute; RR, 17 breaths/minute; T, 98.5 degrees Fahrenheit; O2 Saturation, 99% (Room Air).
