Theme: Building a 1000 Island Puzzle: Putting Multiple Pieces into Place
In attendance: Kim, Abby, Amy, Sarah, Mary Jo, Jennifer, Michael, Jamia, Jami, Darcy
This month's topics:
A.              Keynote Speakers - Dr. Jaclyn Sisskind has agreed to be our Keynote on Thursday, 10/26 - Amanda is still working on Llana James - if she doesn't work out, we will move on to Dr. Nanavati
B.               Draft Schedule - push for member presenters, virtual presenters (?) - it was agreed we will not be pushing for virtual presenters - encouraging in-person participation- suggested that members encourage colleagues to submit
C.              CE options - Sarah will be creating a poll to be sent out to the committee. Once we have the results, Sarah will contact our 1st choice and move on from there if needed.

  *   Constant Connection: Tech Addiction and How to Disconnect
Tired of the continual screen glow? Need to reconnect with life 1.0? Come and chat with a recovering technology addict about ways to add more balance to your life. Participants will hear about tips and tricks (and yes, even technology) that can help you unplug.


  *   Sign Language for Librarians
This workshop will introduce library faculty and staff to visual communication and basic library related sign language. Participants will learn a variety of things including: basic tips in communicating with Deaf patrons, simple signs related to the library, strategies to make your library more Deaf friendly and resources to help participants continue their sign language and Deaf culture education. The workshop includes group instruction, demonstrations and activities.


  *   Misinformation and how to fight it
Misinformation has been around since ancient Egyptian times. It's not new, but evolving technology has increased its spread exponentially. Similar to infectious diseases, we are all potential vectors in the spread of misinformation. Inoculate yourself to misinformation by participating in this introduction to identifying and fighting misinformation. During this workshop, participants will review the modern misinformation landscape, learn about and utilize fact-checking tools and pave a path to becoming a better digital citizen.
Learning Outcomes: 1) Understand the landscape of misinformation today. 2) Identify and utilize tools to assist in the identification of mis/disinformation

  *   Understanding and addressing predatory publishers: An interactive workshop
Instructor: Dr. Kelly Cobey - kcobey at uottawa.ca<mailto:kcobey at uottawa.ca>
Level: Introductory

By the end of this course participants will be able to:
*         understand what predatory publishers are
*         identify and distinguish predatory journals/publishers from legitimate ones
*         discuss and contribute to community strategies to educate others about predatory publishers and their consequences


Margaret Sampson, Jessie McGowan (Ottowa)

  *   Writing up your research for publication.
Level: Advanced

By the end of this course participants will be able to:
*        identify a suitable journal to submit their research to
*        present their manuscript in IMRAD format
*        identify the reporting guidelines for the study design used in their research
*        address reviewer and editor feedback in order to maximize the likelihood of acceptance for publication
