Hi Sarah,
I brought your question about the new CE proposal to the UNYOC leadership huddle this morning with Stephanie, Beth, and Kim.
I also took the opportunity to bring up a request from Jessica Kilham from NNLM Region 7. The attached email contains the complete thread between me, Jessica, and Jennifer McKinnell.
The brief version is this: Jessica would like to provide the NNLM update virtually because Chautauqua is too far away for her to get to easily/economically.
The reason that I’m linking these two discussions together is so that we can explore some options around CE sponsorship.
At the July planning meeting we originally discussed holding a 3-hour CE that we would charge $25 for members and $55 for non-members to attend.
With the current proposed CE lasting only 2 hours, what if we were to ask NNLM to sponsor it and provide the NNLM update prior to the presentation?
We could substantially drop the price, depending on whether NNLM could cover part or all of the $500 proposed cost.
If Jessica agrees to fund the whole thing, then the CE also be parlayed into a fundraising venture for the chapter.
In this scenario, I suggest that the registration fees ($10 for members?) could be put back into UNYOC’s account and used to fund professional development awards and scholarships in 2025.
Alternatively, Jessica says she is willing to do a pre-recorded NNLM update.
Unless I’m mistaken, there is still one $300 Breakfast sponsorship available. NNLM could take that spot, and we can play the recording for the conference attendees.
I’m sharing all of this now so that we can have time to consider before the next planning meeting on Friday.
If anyone has concerns about what I’ve shared, or perhaps a new scenario for us to consider, please “reply all" to this email.
Best,
Lorraine

Subject: [EXT] [unyoc-planning] Conference CE Update
Hi Everyone,
I have a CE update! I spoke with Alex Carroll about his interest in offering an extended version of the 1 hour CE session he presented for MLA in 2021, “All You Need to Know to Publish Your Research.” He said he would be interested in doing two credit hours. We normally do 3, but he’s not willing to do that. What do we think about his proposal?
If we go ahead with the 2 credit hours, I’m thinking we could adjust the cost of CE and the honorarium we offer him. I’m thinking 500 dollar honorarium (since it’s shorter and he won’t have to travel) and perhaps charging attendees about 2/3 of what we were planning to charge? What does everyone think?
Thanks so much for your input on the wild ride that CE planning has been this year 😊
Sarah
