Sorry about missing the meeting. I also loved the book and while I agree
the ending was a bit contrived -I love happy endings. I look forward to
reading Rebecca

Excellent book club last evening! All present enjoyed The Giver of Stars
although some of us felt that the ending was maybe "too happily ever after"
and maybe a bit contrived.

The group unanimously decided to go with a classic for our next read to
welcome in Spring:

Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (449 pages)
Location: Deb Hermann's House, 906 Rugby Road, Syracuse (8 minutes from
campus). I plan to be in this location on this date - if it changes I will
let you know.
Date & Time: Monday, May 18, 2020 at 5:30 pm
Bring: A bottle of wine/non-alcoholic beverage OR an appetizer to share.

Even if you do not read the entire book - come and join in on the
discussion! No RSVP necessary!

More about the book:
Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again . . .The novel begins in Monte
Carlo, where our heroine is swept off her feet by the dashing widower Maxim
de Winter and his sudden proposal of marriage. Orphaned and working as a
lady's maid, she can barely believe her luck. It is only when they arrive at
his massive country estate that she realizes how large a shadow his late
wife will cast over their lives--presenting her with a lingering evil that
threatens to destroy their marriage from beyond the grave.
