I am thrilled to announce our October 12th Pediatric Grand Rounds Lecturer. Dr. Pamela Chen is a graduate of Harvard Medical School, current third year resident in the Boston Combined Residency Program at Boston Children’s Hospital, and Rising Chief Resident.



In addition to being an already accomplished resident physician, Dr. Chen is also a lifelong artist. Her journey to incorporate art and medicine began with self-portraiture depicting her experience in her first year of medical school symbolized by the white coat ceremony. This transitioned into several further self-portraits and the realization that representation in honor walls and art in her own institution did not include many women or people of color. This led her to research and paint prominent female physicians at Harvard Medical School who had preceded her.

We are fortunate that our own Dean, Dr. Lawrence Chin, was present for Dr. Chen’s presentation at the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine this spring and suggested her for our audience.



Dr. Chen will be discussing her art and the role of inclusivity, visual environments, and representation in medicine. Her talk titled “What does a leader look like? Representation in medical portraiture” will be given on October 12th at 8am directly following our PL3 warmup by Dr. Ahmed Eltayeb.
