Gender disparities in academia persist despite women and men attending and graduating medical schools in equal proportions for the last two decades. We review current data from qualitative and quantitative studies to understand trends, such as women leaving academia at alarming rates. We discuss initiatives on national and local levels, such as those that include improving transparency of pay, family leave policies and programs to support mentorship.



At the end of this lectures, attendees will be able to:

1. Understand current national and local landscape regarding gender equity.

2. Learn national and local initiatives to address gender equity gaps in academic medicine.

3. Discuss next steps, institutional hopes and future directions.
