Subject: [EXTERNAL] Book Club Update 2025-2026 - Mark your calendars

Hello,
Six of us met on 6/9/25 and discussed The Women by Kristin Hannah. We all felt it was a powerful book that brought many of us back to that time in history and the discourse in our country. We had an intense discussion and
then turned our thoughts to books and dates for the Fall 2025.

We decided to pick our first three books with corresponding dates which are listed below. We also brainstormed other possible titles for the future. We welcome your input and other ideas. I want to thank everyone who
attended and stayed almost 3 hours enjoying stimulating conversation, laughter and the company of each other. We are quite a group and hope that those of you who could not be present will join us in the Fall.

Monday, September 15, 2025 at 5:30 pm, The Lovely One by Kentanji Brown Jackson. 432 pgs. It is a memoir by the first Black woman to ever be appointed to the Supreme Court of the United States. It focuses on Justice
Jackson's life before the spotlight and chronicles her extraordinary story.

Monday, November 10, 2025 at 5:30 pm, By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult. 525 pgs. It is a dual-timeline novel that explores the struggles of two women playwrights separated by centuries, both forced to hide their
identities to have their work recognized. In Elizabethan England, Emilia Bassano uses the name William Shakespeare to publish her plays due to the limitations placed on women writers. In the present day, Melina Green writes a play
about Emilia but faces similar challenges in a male-dominated theater world. The novel examines themes of sexism, ambition, and the enduring fight for female voices to be heard.

Monday, January 12, 2026 at 5:30 pm, The Soul of America: The Battle for Our Better Angels by Jon Meacham. 416 pgs. The author explores dark moments in American history and argues that our current climate of partisan
division is not new. He sheds light on the present moment in American politics and life by looking back at critical times in U.S. history when hope overcame division and fear.

Future potential books:
American Negra by Natasha S. Alford. 288 pgs. Author grew up in Syracuse NY and is the March FOCL author.
Summer Island by Kristin Hannah. 416 pgs.
Remarkedly Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. 368 pgs.
The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai. 421 pgs.

We wish everyone a safe and happy summer. Reminders and location details will be sent closer to dates. We also want to thank Sandy Jarvis for sending out our emails and supporting this group!
