Monday, November 10, 2025 at 5:30 pm, By Any Other Name by Jodi Picoult. 525 pgs. It is a dual-timeline novel that explores the struggles of two women playwrights separated by centuries, both forced to hide their
identities to have their work recognized. In Elizabethan England, Emilia Bassano uses the name William Shakespeare to publish her plays due to the limitations placed on women writers. In the present day, Melina Green writes a play
about Emilia but faces similar challenges in a male-dominated theater world. The novel examines themes of sexism, ambition, and the enduring fight for female voices to be heard.

division is not new. He sheds light on the present moment in American politics and life by looking back at critical times in U.S. history when hope overcame division and fear.
