Professor of Pediatrics (retired), University of Chicago<br>
Author, <em><span style="font-family:"Tahoma",sans-serif">Women and the Practice of Medicine: A New History</span></em> (1950-2020)<br>
In 1972, out of a University of Chicago of Pritzker School of Medicine graduating class of 80, Dr. Lester was one of 6 women. She completed a pediatric residency and fellowship training at that institution, served 2 years as a clinical associate at the NIH-
Pediatric Metabolism Branch, and then spent most of the next 30 years as a faculty member of the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Chicago. Promoted to Professor, she served as Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Center and as Section Chief of Pediatric
Pulmonary division. She directed clinical studies of new therapies for children and adults with cystic fibrosis and asthma, and collaborated on NIH funded studies of the genetics of asthma. She has authored numerous publications and supervised the training
of medical students and residents throughout her career; she retired in 2013. She now pursues her interests in the history of medicine and women’s studies.<br>
