I think Amy, Mary Jo, and I are the only ones on the Exec who knew Ursula so I thought I’d share this… she also has a MLA oral history.

She and Lucretia were best buds.  In fact I finally switched to calling her Ursula because “Lucretia and Mrs. Poland” was awkward! She was pleased because she kept reminding me I could call her by her first name!

Dear Colleagues,

Thanks to the revised criteria (thank you all!) and stepped up recruitment efforts (thank you Eldiflor!), we have six great applicants for the 2021 Ursula Poland scholarship.

The scholarship stipulates that UNYOC will award two annually, one to a Canadian and one to an American. No scholarship was awarded in 2020 due to an absence of applicants. In 2019, one was awarded to the sole applicant. In light of the sparse award distribution in recent years and considering that all six 2021 applicants are Canadian, the members at large propose that we select two Canadian scholarship recipients this year. Does the Executive Board support this proposal?
