Cool Stuff Ahead:

New communications tool 

In February we will introduce SecureText. You will be able to send and receive text messages from your phone or within Epic. Along with messages you will be able to send a link to open a patient chart (if the discussion is patient related). This tool should be considered for all non-emergent clinical communications (which should still be pagers, direct calls or, in some locations, Vocera). 

·         These messages are not saved and are not part of the medical records. They will be erased from the system after 3 days. 

·         This tool should replace any non-secure (non-HIPPA compliant) texting or messaging. 

·         All clinical users will have access.

·         If you add yourself and others to care teams, you can send messages to the entire team. 

Voice Recognition (Dragon)

Installation has begun! Our goal is to have Dragon installed this quarter. This project includes integration both into Epic software and adding it to Haiku. Keep an eye for more information and to learn about when/where training will be available. 


Regulatory Update

You will need to pay attention to a new CMS rule that will affect how records and results are shared with patients. The new rule will prohibit “information blocking”. Institutions and providers (with limited exceptions) will be required to share notes, results and other information with patients with little to no time delay. You will be able to selectively hold back information you dream injurious but the default must be to release all information. There will be heavy fines for not meeting this rule (institutions will have 1 million dollar fine for each infraction). This rule is currently in review but, if adopted, the current language requires we enact it within 30 days. 

 

Epic Clubhouse

The next Clubhouse will meet Tuesday (tomorrow) from 4-6 pm in room 12405 GCH. I am making arrangements that all future meetings will have both a downtown and CC location. As always, we will discuss any topics you might have.  If you are doing any cool things or have an unique solution you are using, come share it!
