[epicproviders] Epigram : heparin flush shortage

Issue
There is a national back order of heparin used for flushes.

Solution
This shortage was anticipated and a trial of flushes using saline only was performed on patients in 2 units (adult patients).  The trial was successful and did not show a change in line clots or the need for TPA.
Building on the successful trial, flushes for all venous lines  (adults) will  be saline only as of tomorrow morning. (Friday)

What you will see and need to do
There will now be two ordersets for central line flushes. There will be one for adults and a second one for pediatrics.  Please order flushes from the appropriate orderset.

Please note that in addition to using these ordersets for new adult flush orders, you may be asked by the nursing staff to change  existing orders to meet the new process. The order sets can be used to assist you in this.
