[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Update - Coagulation tube shortage update/new "waste" tube

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing. In an attempt to keep us all on the same page, the Laboratory Formulary Committee will be regularly sending out emails with recent updates and guidances. Below are the short versions of relevant changes. Attached are more in-depth resources about the changes.

Update on Coagulation Tube shortage / new "waste" tube: The national shortage of blue-top tubes used for coagulation testing blood draws continues to affect the supply of these tubes at Upstate.  These blue-top tubes have been the appropriate tubes to use when removing the initial "waste" blood for blood draws using vascular lines.  Upstate now stocks a dedicated tube for this "waste" or "prime" draw, which will help preserve our stocks of blue-top tubes for coagulation testing.
