[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - TIBC reference range update

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing. In an attempt to keep us all on the same page, the Laboratory Formulary Committee will be regularly sending out emails with recent updates and guidances. Below are the short versions of relevant changes. Attached are more in-depth resources about the changes.

Total Iron Binding Capacity reference range update: Total iron binding capacity (TIBC: Epic order LAB829) can be useful in evaluating patients with iron deficiency or excess when used in conjunction with other testing.  TIBC is calculated using the transferrin level.  The reference ranges for transferrin and TIBC, however, were not consistent.  Starting June 3, 2021, the reference range for TIBC will be corrected to a reference range concordant with the transferrin reference range.  Please see the attached guidance for details.
