[LabUpdates] Lab Formulary Committee Updates - Cytology specimen orders and coagulation testing

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing. In an attempt to keep us all on the same page, the Laboratory Formulary Committee will be regularly sending out emails with recent updates and guidances. Below are the short versions of relevant changes. Attached are more in-depth resources about the changes.

Cytology Specimen Labeling system: Starting June 1st, 2021, orders for Cytology GYN (Epic order LABAP2713), Cytology Non-GYN (Epic order LABAP2714) and Fine Needle Aspirate (FNA; Epic order LABAP2712) will now produce a specimen label for collection.  Ambulatory orders will print at the designated clinic/office printer and in-patient/ED orders will print via Collection Manager. Coagulation Testing Tube Shortage: The blue citrate tubes used to draw blood for coagulation testing is in short supply.  At this time, Upstate has sufficient tubes to provide required testing, but these tubes should be utilized sparingly at this time and only when coagulation testing is indicated.  Blue citrate tubes should not be drawn proactively "just in case".  Please see the attached guidance for more information.
