Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing. The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.

H. pylori serology testing change: As of October 2, 2023 our reference laboratory will no longer offer serological (IgA, IgM, and IgG) testing for H. pylori.

  * The use of serologic testing for H. pylori is not recommended as these methods have demonstrated poor positive predictive value, particularly in the United States where H. pylori has low endemicity.
  * Antibodies to H. pylori can remain detectable for years following resolution of infection and therefore cannot be used to distinguish active from past infection or to document eradication following successful treatment.

Please utilize the following reference laboratory test to evaluate for active H. pylori infection:
H. pylori stool antigen (EPIC code: LHPYS, https://www.upstate.edu/pathology/healthcare/orders.php?code=LHPYS )
