[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - VZV PCR (Non-CSF) testing change

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing.  The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.

VZV PCR (Non-CSF) testing change:  Beginning 5/30/2023, the UH Microbiology Laboratory will perform qualitative Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) PCR from swabs of cutaneous and mucocutaneous lesions. Epic order VZV PCR (Non-CSF) - LAB9798 replaces VZV Real Time PCR - LAB8734. To detect VZV from CSF, order CSF Pathogen Panel - LAB9770.  Please see the attached guidance for more details.
