[LabUpdates] Laboratory Formulary Committee Updates - Change in TEG testing

Medicine and laboratory testing are constantly changing.  The Laboratory Formulary Committee regularly sends out emails with new updates and changes.



Change to TEG coagulation testing: Starting February 1st, 2024, Thromboelastography (TEG) testing will transition from the TEG5000 to the TEG6 platform.  Current TEG orders TEG Kaolin (LAB8838) and TEG Heparinase (LAB8837) will be replaced with 3 new tests: TEG Global Hemostasis with Heparinase (LAB9866), TEG Global Hemostasis with Lysis (LAB9865), and TEG Platelet Mapping (LAB9867).  The new assays can be viewed in real time through the TEG Viewer and the appropriate values will port into Epic, just like the current TEG results.  At this time, TEG testing is only available at the Downtown Campus.

Note: the TEG Global Hemostasis with Heparinase and TEG Global Hemostasis with Lysis assays require a blue-top tube, the TEG Platelet Mapping requires a green top tube, and all require a waste/discard tube to be drawn first.
