Dear Colleagues,
Unfortunately, I will not be able to mentor you this fall for your grand rounds presentations. This will affect students who will be presenting a 'clinical case study' on the grand rounds schedule. I am sorry that I am not able to provide the informational support for the clinical aspects of the cases.
I would like to suggest an alternative for the 'clinical case study' presentations. I would suggest having each student present a paradigm shifting paper in their research field that has come out in the last three years. I would like you to send it out to the group one week before. I would like you to present the paper and offer your critical appraisal of the work. Then I would like you to answer two questions. How does this paper affect your research work? How can or will this paper affect patients? For mentorship I would suggest discussing this with your PI and invite them to our dinner.
The standardized patient sessions in the simulation centers will go ahead as planned. The internal medicine chief residents have offered to mentor these sessions for this fall. I will be meeting with them this Thursday to talk through the learning objectives so that you have a positive experience.
If you have questions, please reach out to me and Andrea in a separate email. Thank you again for your flexibility and patience.
Best wishes,
Amit
