MED2029 AΩA opportunities in writing and poetry

Dear Upstate Medical Students,

I would like to remind you of several upcoming national AΩA opportunities in writing and poetry. These programs encourage medical students to reflect on medicine and scholarship, with winning entries published in The Pharos and accompanied by monetary awards.
The Robert H. Moser Essay Award honors the legacy of Dr. Moser by recognizing one outstanding biographical essay about a physician whose career enriched the world of medicine. The submission deadline is October 21, 2025, with the award announcement on December 19, 2025. The winning author will receive $4,500, and the essay will be published in The Pharos.
The Pharos Poetry Award invites original poetry related to health or medicine. Submissions are due by November 4, 2025, and award announcements will be made on February 13, 2026. Up to five poems will be selected, each awarded $1,500, with publication in The Pharos.
The Helen H. Glaser Student Essay Award encourages scholarly essays relevant to medicine, with submissions due by December 2, 2025. Winners will be announced on March 6, 2026. Up to five essays will be selected, each awarded $1,500, with publication in The Pharos.
